Celebrating 30 years of Outreach and Education

This spring marks 30 years that we have been going to local schools for our local Audubon chapter. Peggy Martin has been joining me for about the last 10 years. We visit classes up and down the coast, including Mendocino, Fort Bragg, Point Arena, Anderson Valley, Albion and Comptche. We teach about birds and their ability to fly, bird identification, and play a beak adaptation game. On our second visit we go birding, letting the kids use binoculars provided by the Mendocino Coast Audubon Society. I wish that everyone could experience the moments of awe when a child gets flashed the bright pink from a Anna’s hummingbird or the brilliant blue on a Bluebird’s back, the joy of hearing the Osprey calling and seeing it carrying fish back to the nest, or of seeing Barn Swallows feeding their young. These are the experiences that you have helped to bring to our coastal children, our future Audubon members who will continue to protect birds and their habitats.

Come celebrate the Earth and Birds at the Noyo Food Forests Earth Day Event Saturday, April 18! And please contact me if you would like to volunteer for a bit at our Audubon booth! In heartfelt gratitude, Pam Huntley 707 472-6240
