Caspar Pond Trail Grand Opening

On a warm, sunny day in Caspar, community members gathered to celebrate the grand opening of the new public trail at Caspar Pond. Also known as the Caspar Duck Pond, it has long been a place cherished by local birders and nature lovers, and it is now permanently protected for everyone to enjoy.

Executive Director Conrad Kramer of the Mendocino Land Trust opened the ceremony by recognizing the collaboration that made the project possible. He was followed by Mendocino Coast Audubon Society President Tim Bray, who honored the Society’s $55,000 gift to purchase the easement and establish an endowment that will steward the trail for years to come.

Finally, land owner Michael St. John shared his appreciation for having the opportunity to protect the pond for the community he loves. In a touching conclusion to the ceremony, his grandchildren unveiled plans for a commemorative bench and plaque that will be installed in his honor. It will be a lasting legacy and the perfect place to sit and watch the ducks go by.
