Mendocino Coast Audubon Society Meeting

“Built by Birds: How Papua’s Forests Grow, Survive, and Thrive.”

by Yoki Hadiprakarsa

Join us for a presentation (via Zoom) that will explore the extraordinary relationships between birds and forests in Papua, focusing on how species such as hornbills, cassowaries, and birds-of-paradise help shape and sustain one of the world’s last great tropical wildernesses. Our speaker, Yoki Hadiprakarsa, will also share stories from his conservation and filmmaking work across the region.

Yoki is a prominent Indonesian wildlife conservationist and the Director for Forest Program at the Rekam Nusantara Foundation. He is widely recognized as a trailblazer in hornbill conservation, particularly for his efforts to save the critically endangered helmeted hornbill from extinction through community-based guardianship and ecotourism. Yoki holds a Master of Science in Forest Resources from the University of Georgia and specializes in hornbill ecology, landscape planning, and spatial modeling.
