Caspar Pond and Beach Trip
Saturday, October 24, 2026
8:00 AM – 12:00 NOON
Description: This field trip will cover several small but special birding spots in Caspar, including the newly created public trail at Caspar Pond made possible by Mendocino Coast Audubon Society. We will meet at 8am at the pond and spend some time birding along the grassy quarter mile trail, where we will hope to see some early-arriving overwintering waterfowl and late-season migrants. From there we will drive to the cemetery for songbirds and woodpeckers, then to the Caspar beach and creek mouth. If there’s time, we can also head out to the bluffs to scan for seabirds and rock dwellers.
A few things to know:
Weather dependent—rain and/or heavy winds will cancel the walk.
Accessibility: This walk is not ADA accessible. The route includes uneven trails and plenty of sand, so sturdy shoes are highly recommended. Come ready to wander, look closely, and embrace your inner naturalist.
