Bird Walks
The Mendocino Coast Audubon Society (MCAS) conducts many birding field trips throughout the year. Whitecrown SparrowDetails can be found in the Calendar of Events.
Every month two Bird Walks are held at the Mendocino Coast Botanical Gardens, led by an MCAS member. These are scheduled year round on the 1st Saturday at 9:00 AM, and the 3rd Wednesday at 8:00 AM, of each month and are held light-rain or shine. For information call 964-6835.

A checklist containing 276 species of Coastal Mendocino County birds is available for $1.00 at:
  • Ford House, Mendocino Village
  • MacKerricher State Park Visitor Center
  • Van Damm State Park Visitor Center.
Another is 'Checklist of the Birds of Mendocino County, California', Third Edition - Revised: 2005 by Robert J. Keiffer, et al.

This checklist costs $3 and is available by calling the MCAS phone 707-964-6835 or writing to the PO Box 2297, Fort Bragg, 95437.

Birding forums and Rare Bird Alerts
Mendocino County Birding (Mendobirds)

Mendobirds is a Mendocino County general birding electronic forum sponsored by the Mendocino Coast Audubon Society, the Peregrine Audubon Chapter, and the National Audubon Society.

The purpose of Mendobirds is to provide a discussion forum for Mendocino County birds, birding, and bird-related activities. This can include announcements from the Mendocino Coast Audubon Society and the Peregrine Audubon Chapter.

Appropriate topics include sightings of rare birds, questions on identification of birds seen in Mendocino County, birding locations in Mendocino County, new birding resources, and activities of the Audubon chapters in Mendocino County.
